Bottom Center: Kubelwagen Type 82 German Light Utility Vehicle—WWII
Originally designed by Ferdinand Porsche and was built by Volkswagen. Many were also built by the Ford Motor Company of Germany.
Lighter, only two-wheel drive and less robust than its U.S. Army JEEP counterpart. Used in numerous roles in all theaters of war.
Many recognize the design years later in the civilian market, updated and redesigned by Volkswagen as “The Thing.” This vehicle is on loan from the Chris Weiss Collection.
Power plant: Air cooled, flat head, 985cc engine
